Struggling to lose weight? This might be why...

I remember the day vividly. I had just finished a call with one of my clients, where I was discussing the latest diet trends she decided to jump on and why it wasn't going to work and listening to her say she was going to try it anyway. As I sat there, reviewing the recording before I sent it to her, I felt a sense of emptiness wash over me. I was tired of skimming the surface of women's struggles with weight loss. It felt superficial, and deep down, I knew that many of the women I wanted to help were facing much deeper issues than just needing to shed a few pounds. They had been so conditioned to jump from one fad diet to the next - even if they KNEW it wasn't going to work. This is what they had been doing most of their adult life - comparing their body to someone else, wondering why they couldn't look like her and feeling guilty when they "failed" another diet.

At this time, I knew I wanted to go deeper with these women on why they were stuck in this repetitive cycle, but I didn't know if they were ready to have that conversation. I'd say many of them weren't. It's hard to take an honest look at yourself and admit it goes deeper.

Funny thing is, in a way, I was talking about myself. I had been lying to the world. Although on the outside, I looked healthy and fit, I was carrying a dark secret. It had been at bay for over a decade with no issues, but it was starting to come back - with a vengeance.

That’s when I decided to create a video about high functioning depression - more specifically, my journey I had been hiding for almost 20 years. I had started to identify my triggers and what would kick off my depressive spiral. I felt compelled to share in hopes to get it off my chest and release this burden I had been carrying, and to show other women they were not alone in their struggles.

Once I hit upload, I was terrified. I had just done something I never thought I could. Almost instantly, someone wrote me a message. She was going through the exact same thing. Over the next few days and months, more and more messages and comments came in. Many women thanking me for being so vulnerable and bringing light to this topic and how it gave them the courage to face their own demons.

My business began to shift after this. I began to address the real reasons why so many women find themselves on a never-ending diet cycle, unable to commit to a plan for more than a few weeks. I wanted to explore why they fell off track, felt guilty, and returned to old habits. This shift came at a perfect time. I was tired of not making a real impact and not being able to get to the heart of the matter—why women struggle not just to lose weight, but to keep it off. I loved my work, but prior to the shift in my business, I was beginning to think what I did didn't really matter.

If this resonates with you, you’re not alone. Many women experience high functioning depression without even realizing it. You may be the one who appears to have it all together—balancing work, family, and social commitments—while inside, you feel overwhelmed, exhausted, and unfulfilled.

Does any of this sound familiar:

  • The guilt of "falling off the wagon"? When you start a new diet it begins with enthusiasm, but after a few weeks, life gets in the way. You find yourself reaching for comfort foods, feeling guilty about “failing” yet again.

  • The exhaustion of keeping up appearances? Have you ever found yourself putting on a brave face, convincing everyone around you that you’re fine? But inside, you’re battling feelings of sadness and emptiness that only you know about?

  • The frustration of the diet cycle? You’ve tried countless diets and workout plans, but nothing seems to stick. You wonder why you can’t commit to a healthy lifestyle, even though you know it’s what you need.

  • The isolation of not being understood? Friends and family may not understand what you’re going through and you're not about to "burden them" with your problems. You feel isolated in your struggles, unable to share the depth of your emotions.

  • The fear of seeking help? You might worry that admitting you’re struggling will lead to judgment or stigma. You fear being seen as weak or incapable or "not strong enough".
